Next week, we’ll roll out (or should I say roll up) the red carpet for a look back at Sunday night’s Oscars ceremony. We’ll also get a first-hand look at what’s wrong with public education from a top expert, enjoy some delicious Italian dishes, and much more! Here’s a preview…

MONDAY:

It’s WOR’s Oscar Wrap-Up…John Gambling’s got the results of our “Best Picture” poll (and if you haven’t already voted, why not do so now at WOR710.com?), and Joan Hamburg gets a play-by-play of last night’s Oscars ceremony from Lara Spencer of The Insider!

TUESDAY:

Joan Hamburg gets the prescription for improving our public schools as Diane Ravitch, Research Professor of Education at New York University, stops by. Drawing on over forty years of research and observation on education, Ravitch offers Joan her opinions on how we can improve our schools as she discusses her new book, The Death and Life of the Great American School System. In it, she presents her plea to promote the survival of public education.

WEDNESDAY:

Two big political names are talking the headlines with John Gambling this morning! First up, former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney talks with John about why he thinks the government is going about the health care overhaul completely the wrong way. Then, former Bush advisor Karl Rove talks with John about how he thinks President Obama is doing.

Get your appetite ready — it’s Joan Hamburg’s weekly Food Hour! Daisy Martinez, star of Viva Daisy on the Food Network, shares recipes for the favorite dishes she and her family experienced on their holiday vacations, which mix her own timeless Latin American dishes with the flavors she experienced during her travels. Then, Joan cooks up a little music as Sal Scognamillo, Executive Chef and co-owner of Patsy’s restaurant in New York City talks with her about his upcoming performance at the legendary Feinstein’s at Loews Regency. (And don’t worry – he’ll share some of his recipes as well!)

THURSDAY:

Today show co-anchor Natalie Morales talks with Joan Hamburg about her role on Jerry Seinfeld’s new show, Marriage Ref. Plus, Joan takes a look at how recent public health crises, such as swine flu, bird flu, and unusual concentrations of cancer and other diseases, have raised urgent questions about how our animal-derived food is raised and brought to market. She’ll be joined by investigative journalist David Kirby, who will discuss his new expose, Animal Factory, in which he discusses the powerful business and political interests behind large-scale factory farms, and tracks the far-reaching fallout that contaminates our air, land, water, and food.

FRIDAY:

Mayor Michael Bloomberg joins John Gambling in-studio to discuss the City’s top stories!

THURSDAY

If your New Year’s resolution was to get in better shape and live a healthier lifestyle, don’t miss the Joan Hamburg show all this week. And if you’ve already broken your New Year’s resolution…whatever it was…Dr. Joy has a special show this week to help you get back on track! Plus, New York’s favorite morning man John Gambling is back from his vacation last week in chilly Florida! Umm…did someone say something about global warming? Yeah, sure. Anyway, here’s a look at some of the highlights coming up this week on WOR!

MONDAY

John Gambling returns from vacation! Among his guests will be attorney Ron Kuby, who will weigh in with John on the past few weeks’ news about terrorism and airline security. Plus, martial arts celebrity Chuck Norris talks with John about the world of politics, and Len Berman looks back at the weekend in sports, including Saturday’s Jets-Bengals playoff game!

Get the inside scoop on a show that shocked censors, outraged the White House, and forever changed the face of television when TV critic David Bianculli joins Joan Hamburg to discuss his new release, “Dangerously Funny – The Uncensored Story of the Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour.” Plus, it’s Joan’s New Year’s health and fitness series – today, Dr. Ian Smith stops by to discuss his seven-step process to take weight off quickly! And get a first-hand look at a small business person’s successes as Liz Hamburg brings us her weekly “Launch Pad” feature!

WEDNESDAY

Former New Jersey Governor and Chairman of the 9/11 Commission Tom Kean talks with John Gambling about the idea of trying accused 9/11 terrorist mastermind Khalid Sheikh Mohammed in New York City. Plus, what does the New Year hold for the auto business, and specifically Ford? Find out when John speaks with Ford CEO Alan Mulally!

Hungry for great information? It’s Joan Hamburg’s weekly food hour! Tom Birchard, owner of Veselka, a cozy 24-hour Ukrainian coffee shop in New York’s East Village, talks with Joan about this landmark restaurant that for more than fifty years has fed countless locals and tourists alike. Find out the secrets of the eatery’s longevity, and find out about some of their specialties, many of which are featured in “The Veselka Cookbook,” including lobster rolls! YUM!

After the eating’s done, let Ron Insana show you how to make more money (so you can buy more food?) as he talks with Joan Hamburg about how to find the right once-in-a-generation investment bargains that will not only revitalize depleted retirement accounts, but change people’s financial lives for years to come! Then, have you ever wondered what it would be like to put your life in the hands of television’s most-influential personality, Oprah Winfrey? Robyn Okrant did just that by redesigning her entire life – from her wardrobe to her marriage to her diet to her spiritual life, her finances, her home, and beyond – all according to Oprah Winfrey’s “best life” advice. She’ll tell Joan about her experience today!

THURSDAY

Is the best diet for you determined by your genes? So says naturopathic physician Dr. Peter J. D’Adamo, who will tell Joan Hamburg how you can use family history and blood type, as well as simple diagnostic tools such as fingerprint analysis, leg length measurements, and dental characteristics to discover which of his six Genotype plans to follow for a healthier you!

Broke your New Year’s resolution already? Don’t worry…help from Dr. Joy is on the way! Don’t miss a special edition of her show, recorded yesterday at Englewood Hospital in Englewood, New Jersey!

FRIDAY

Get a preview of all the big sports action this weekend as John Gambling chats with Len Berman! Plus, John talks about the city’s top stories with Mayor Michael Bloomberg when he pays his regular weekly visit.

Do twelve exercises for twelve minutes a day…and lose up to twelve pounds…all in just two weeks! Sound too good to be true? It’s not, as America’s favorite fitness expert, Denise Austin, tells Joan Hamburg today!

Round out 2009 and kick off 2010 next week with WOR! Fact becomes fiction…or is it fiction that became fact? When it comes to a new book on health care, it might be hard to tell! We’ll try to get into Tiger Woods’ head and find out why he cheated again and again (how many mistresses have there been…I’ve lost count!), and we’ll take a look ahead at 2010 in Albany. All that and much more as we raise our glasses in a toast to the New Year! Here are some of the highlights:

THURSDAY

Kennedy, Jr. affect the lives of those closest to him? Kennedy biographer C. David Heymann talks with Joan about his new book, Bobby and Jackie: A Love Story.

Call in with your views on the top stories of the day as talk show host Chris Stigall sits in for Steve Malzberg!
